As part of the Park Royal Net-Zero Food Systems initiative, a workshop titled “Action Planning for Circular Economies” convened key collaborators from Brunel University London, Harper Adams University, and The Food and Drink Federation. The event focused on co-developing innovative solutions to some of the most pressing sustainability challenges facing the food and drink sector.
Workshop Objectives
The workshop set out to share and build upon innovation and development challenges identified through earlier engagement with the Park Royal food and drink industry professionals. The aim was to collaboratively explore practical, innovative and research-driven solutions to accelerate progress towards net-zero.
Key Focus Areas
Participants explored three critical themes shaping the future of sustainable food systems:
- Energy Efficiency – Strategies to reduce energy use across food production and processing operations.
- Waste Valorisation – Approaches to transform food and packaging waste into valuable resources.
- Scope 3 Emissions – Solutions to address indirect emissions across the supply chain, from sourcing to distribution.
Collaborative Innovation
The workshop featured interactive discussions and a Sandpit activity, designed to spark creative thinking and cross-sector collaboration. Participants co-created actionable ideas with potential for real-world impact, many of which have been considered for development into funding proposals and follow-on projects.
Looking Ahead
Building on the momentum of this successful event, we are excited to host future workshops that continue to drive innovation and collaboration across the sector. Together, we aim to shape a circular, net-zero future for food systems in Park Royal and beyond.
