Decarbonisation of Industrial Baking and Cooking Workshop

As part of the Park Royal Net-Zero Food Systems initiative, we recently hosted a workshop titled “Decarbonisation of Industrial Baking and Cooking”, bringing together food manufacturers, industry specialists and researchers to explore practical pathways to lower-carbon baking and cooking.

Workshop Objectives

The workshop aimed to share the latest industry developments and research, while helping food manufacturers understand opportunities to reduce energy consumption, improve efficiency and decarbonise industrial baking and cooking processes.

Key Focus Areas

Participants explored four key areas:

  • Industrial Oven Technology – Latest developments and innovations supporting decarbonisation.
  • Energy Efficiency & Emissions – Opportunities to improve oven efficiency, reduce energy use and address Scope 1 emissions.
  • Low-Carbon Solutions – Approaches to decarbonising tunnel ovens and exploring low-carbon alternatives.
  • Retrofit vs Replacement – Technical, operational and financial considerations when upgrading or replacing equipment.

Industry Collaboration

The workshop featured presentations from industry specialists and researchers, followed by a roundtable discussion where participants shared their experiences, challenges and ideas around decarbonising baking and cooking processes.

Looking Ahead

The workshop highlighted the importance of bringing industry and academia together to share knowledge and identify practical, cost-effective solutions for decarbonising food manufacturing. We look forward to continuing these conversations through future workshops and collaborative projects.
